FAQs

  1. What does the Perot Museum’s expansion include?

The Perot Museum is transforming approximately four acres of its campus, anchored by a new outdoor museum experience that will double the Museum’s exhibition space. The project also includes a reimagined entrance and lobby; enhanced educational, dining, and event spaces; an on-site parking garage; and infrastructure improvements.

  2. What will visitors be able to do outside?

Guests will explore the forces of nature through hands-on experiences, physical exploration, and live science demonstrations. Feel powerful wind gusts, build water pressure to send a geyser skyward, investigate how moving water shapes a landscape, and witness a towering fire tornado. Other planned highlights include a cloud maze, lightning and thunder pavilion, giant water vortex, and pollinator garden, where visitors can discover the connections between plants, pollinators, and the ecosystems that sustain life.

  3. When will the expansion open?

Groundbreaking is planned for early 2027, with a public opening anticipated in late 2028. These dates are subject to change as the project progresses.

  4. Why is the Museum expanding?

The Museum is expanding to inspire more people through nature and science, meet growing demand for hands-on learning, and respond to the needs of a rapidly growing region. By creating more space and new ways to discover and explore, the Museum aims to reach more children, families, and educators, broaden access to STEM learning, and help young people see new possibilities for their future.

  5. How big will the expansion be?

The transformation covers approximately four acres and includes 60,000 square feet of new outdoor museum space. Together, the improvements will double the Museum’s exhibition space.

  6. Who is on the project team?

The project team includes design architect Morphosis; landscape architect Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates; architect of record The Beck Group; outdoor exhibit designers NorthernLight and Bruns; general contractor Balfour Beatty; and development manager Hillwood Urban.

  7. What opportunities are available to support the expansion?

Curiosity Unbound is the $185 million campaign supporting the Museum’s expansion. To learn more about giving opportunities and how you can help bring this vision to life, please contact Katherine Stenesen, chief development officer, at katherine.stenesen@perotmuseum.org.
